| I've been trying to figure this one out. I know that Christians have varying opinions on the actual Halloween holiday (to put it mildly).
Putting that aside for the moment, this year was rather interesting. In the past, I used to remember the bad/rude kids more prominently than the others; especially since they were far and few between. "Were" is the operative word.
Now it seems like its the other way around. Out of all the kids that showed up on Halloween, only two (2) parents actually walked their kids up to the door. At least half stayed in the car.
With the vast majority of the kids it went something like this:
- They leaned on the doorbell and held out there bags with the fullest expectation that they had done there part, and it was time for me to hand over the goods. They didn't at least say 'Trick or Treat'.
- I told them, "You got to at least say it." They sigh, put a little more attitude and exasperation in the way they stand, and then say 'Trick or Treat' like it practically hurt them to say it.
- I hold out the bowl and say "Take one". They take one fistful.
The real kicker is that the kids were greedy, rude, and the parents didn't seem to make much of an effort to correct this. Only one parent actually came to the door with his kid and made sure he only took one, and that he said thank you and that he was polite and kind. One. All night.

| Let's hear it for the "entitlement mentality." Children today are not taught to be grateful, thankful, and consider how blessed they are. And I do not put all of the blame on the kids. Most of the blame falls on the parents.Children WILL imitate what is exampled to them.So I say, "Why is anyone surprised?" | "C'mon Dave, Gimme a break!" | |
